Trails and Trout + The Fishing Mutts

ABOUT US

Hi! We’re Halie, Cole, Lennie, and Teddy. Thank you for taking the time to explore our content! Trails and Trout is the name of our outdoor adventure blog, which also serves as the handle of Halie’s socials, while The Fishing Mutts accounts are dedicated to dog-centric content. Trails and Trout LLC is the name of Halie’s small media business that encompasses it all.

Halie is behind most of the short-form video creation, copywriting, blogging, and content management for the Trails and Trout and Fishing Mutts platforms. She is a former park ranger and currently works as an environmental consultant. Cole is a former fly fishing guide turned marketing manager and SEO specialist in outdoor tourism and recreation. He’s also the talented photographer behind much of the beautiful, static imagery on our pages.

Lennie and Teddy, also known as the Fishing Mutts, are our two quirky rescue dogs who accompany us on our adventures. Teddy has gained internet popularity because of his adorable obsession with fish and the silly way he begs for food—upside down, essentially. Fans enjoy following the dogs’ fishing adventures which are often documented in a short-form vlog style. The Fishing Mutts’ channels feature an intentional balance of lighthearted, funny, and trending content, with aesthetic and/or informative adventure dog content.

We are currently based in Missoula, Montana, and adventure throughout the northwest. Together, we spend most of our free time on the river or in the mountains. Fly fishing, backpacking, rafting, packrafting, and skiing are some of our favorite pursuits!

VIDEO

We specialize in creating engaging short-form video. On our own socials, we post an intentional balance of several categories of video, including educational/informational, lighthearted/funny, and aesthetic/inspirational—from how-to’s, to vlog style adventure recaps, to silly and trending dog videos. Across The Fishing Mutts and Trails and Trout socials we have created over a dozen videos which surpassed 1M views. Our most viral reel currently has 34.8M views! We are skilled in creating videos that have strong initial hooks, peak interest to encourage continued viewing, and include a call to action (CTA).

Education, Adventure Inspiration, & Vlog Style Trip Recaps

This was a successful video with 5.8M views, showing how I conditioned my dog to packrafting. The subtle hook in this short video encouraged people to watch until the end to find out what we were training for. Additionally, this video would have worked as a gentle product advertisement, as there were many comments asking about the boat. Many people also asked for a more detailed version of our training routine, so I created a two part follow up:

This short, light-hearted recap of Teddy’s recent shenanigans received good engagement.

Viral

This silly dog video received over 10M views. One component of it’s success was that we were very early to this trend on Instagram, before it became incredibly popular—This audio first began to trend on TikTok (a frequent occurrence), and therefore, we were able to anticipate it becoming a popular on Instagram and post early.
